Buffer Capacitor Module SMCU002957 9400uF / 63V for DIN Rail Mounting
Buffer capacitor module for DIN rail mounting.
Robust design, with double-sided printed circuit board with 70um copper and solid shear terminals which can carry 30A current permanently.
Connects between power supply and load.
General features:
Capacitors are a useful addition to switching power supplies. They buffer the voltage and supply high peak currents during short-time loads. This results in more torque and higher power for the motors. At the same time, the power supply itself is subjected to less load.
Charging capacitors also permanently smooth voltage peaks of the motor-induced back-EMF signal. Similarly, in switched-mode power supplies, they also smooth the pulsating DC current that occurs during rectification of AC voltage: "wavy" operating voltage becomes "smooth".
Thanks to line resistance, the capacitor in the DC link also acts as an RC element and low-pass filter. If the motor generates large voltage peaks in the back EMF signal during rapid acceleration or braking ramps, this threatens the dielectric strength of the components on the driver board. The filter circuit permanently smooths voltage spikes to a low voltage. This protects the components from back EMF voltage damage.
Capacitors can be connected in parallel to add their capacitances.
Avoid capacitances higher than the rule of thumb 1A motor current ~ 1000 µF capacitance. Otherwise capacitors charge / discharge too long and slow down the system.
Recommended for loads with approx, 8-12A nominal current consumption.
Peak currents can be considerably higher.
